Chewy supplements promise to curb hunger

Early two years ago, hoodia pills came to the weight loss market as a sort of miracle plant supplement with the ability to curb hunger. Now, Delmar Labs has developed a hoodia filled, candy-like chew to complement the pill - a way to keep hunger at bay longer and kick snacking to the curb.

The hoodia pills and chews come from a cactus-like plant called Hoodia Gordonii, which originated in South Africa and, according to the Delmar Labs company, has been helping native South Africans curb hunger for years.

The Dex-L10 Hoodia, a pure hoodia supplement made by Delmar Labs, has proven to be an effective form of weight loss, said Dr. Richard Goldfarb, medical director of Bucks County Clinical Research in Philadelphia and researcher of the pills and hoodia products.

Goldfarb said when the plant filled-pills and products are digested, they send a signal to the brain, telling you that you are full. The promise is you'll eat less, take in fewer calories and lose weight.
He said the new chews have the same effect and can be used to satisfy hunger between meals, when there is an urge to snack.

" It gives you the satisfaction of chewing and it tastes good," Goldfarb said. "Instead of grabbing a peanut butter cup we'd hope you'd grab one of the chews."
